1. Introduction

This Refund Policy explains the circumstances under which a student or customer may request a refund for courses and other digital learning products purchased through MOCBT E-LEARNING CONCEPTS, a learning platform operated by MOC Beacon Technologies.

Our objective is to maintain a fair, transparent, and reasonable refund process while protecting the integrity of our digital learning platform, course materials, assessments, certificates, payment systems, and intellectual property.

Because courses are digital products that may become accessible immediately after payment, refund eligibility may depend on when the request is made, whether course content has been accessed or substantially consumed, and the reason for the refund request.

Nothing in this Policy is intended to exclude, restrict, or waive any consumer right or legal remedy that cannot lawfully be excluded or restricted.

2. Scope of This Policy

This Refund Policy applies to payments made for:

  1. Online courses
  2. Training programmes
  3. Digital learning materials
  4. Paid assessments where applicable
  5. Course enrolments
  6. Other paid digital educational products offered through the MOCBT platform

It applies regardless of whether payment is made using:

  1. Nigerian Naira (NGN)
  2. Automatically converted foreign currency
  3. Paystack
  4. Flutterwave
  5. NOWPayments or another supported cryptocurrency payment processor
  6. Bank transfer
  7. Manual payment
  8. Other payment methods subsequently introduced by MOCBT

Separate terms may apply to promotional products, special training programmes, corporate training, group enrolments, or other products where specific refund terms were clearly presented before payment.

3. Our General Refund Principle

MOCBT E-LEARNING CONCEPTS believes that customers should receive the service they paid for.

Accordingly:

Where a course or paid service has not been properly delivered, is materially defective, is unavailable for an unreasonable period, or a payment was incorrectly processed, MOCBT will investigate the matter and provide an appropriate remedy, which may include repair of the service, replacement, course access extension, credit, partial refund, or full refund, depending on the circumstances.

A refund is not automatically guaranteed merely because a student changes their mind after substantially using a digital course.

4. Standard Refund Request Period

Unless different terms are expressly stated on the course purchase page, students may submit a refund request within:

7 calendar days from the date of successful payment.

The seven-day period begins when the payment transaction is successfully confirmed by MOCBT or its authorised payment processor.

However, the existence of the seven-day period does not mean that every request submitted within seven days will automatically qualify for a refund.

Refund eligibility may also depend on:

  1. Whether the student has accessed the course;
  2. The amount of course content consumed;
  3. Whether downloadable materials have been downloaded;
  4. Whether assessments have been attempted;
  5. Whether a certificate has been issued;
  6. Whether the request is based on a technical or service-delivery failure;
  7. Whether the transaction was fraudulent or unauthorized;
  8. The specific terms presented for the course before purchase.

5. Refunds Before Course Access

If a student requests cancellation before accessing the purchased course or downloading its protected learning materials, the student will generally be eligible for a full refund, subject to verification of the transaction.

The refund request should be submitted before substantial course usage occurs.

6. Refunds After Course Access

Because MOCBT courses are digital products, accessing course content may constitute substantial use of the purchased service.

Therefore, once a student has accessed or substantially consumed course materials, a refund is not automatically guaranteed simply because the student no longer wishes to continue the course.

Factors that may be considered include:

  1. Number of lessons accessed
  2. Percentage of course completed
  3. Videos watched
  4. Documents downloaded
  5. Quizzes attempted
  6. Assignments submitted
  7. Course resources accessed
  8. Certificate eligibility or issuance
  9. Length of time since purchase

However, legitimate service-delivery problems remain eligible for investigation regardless of course usage.

7. Circumstances That May Qualify for a Full Refund

A full refund may be approved where MOCBT determines that one of the following circumstances applies.

7.1 Course Not Delivered

A customer paid for a course but the course was not made available to the customer within a reasonable period.

7.2 Course Permanently Withdrawn

A course is purchased but subsequently withdrawn before the student can reasonably access the promised learning service.

7.3 Material Service Failure

A substantial technical problem prevents the student from accessing the course or its essential learning components and MOCBT is unable to resolve the issue within a reasonable period.

7.4 Duplicate Payment

The same course transaction was successfully charged more than once due to a payment or system error.

The duplicate amount will be eligible for refund after transaction verification.

7.5 Payment Confirmed but Enrollment Not Created

Where payment was successfully received but the corresponding course enrollment was not created because of a platform or payment-processing error, MOCBT will first attempt to correct the enrollment.

If the issue cannot reasonably be corrected, a refund may be issued.

7.6 Incorrect Course Charged

Where a verified technical or administrative error resulted in the customer being charged for a substantially different course from the one selected, MOCBT may provide either:

  1. The correct course; or
  2. An appropriate refund.

7.7 Unauthorized or Fraudulent Transaction

Where a payment is proven to have been made fraudulently or without the account holder's authorization, MOCBT will investigate the transaction and take appropriate action.

Where a refund is justified, the refund will normally be processed through the appropriate payment channel after verification.

8. Technical Problems and Course Access

Students should not immediately request a refund solely because they encounter a technical problem.

MOCBT will first attempt to resolve legitimate technical issues.

Examples include:

  1. Course page not loading
  2. Video not playing
  3. PDF not opening
  4. Learning progress not recording
  5. Course enrollment missing
  6. Certificate not generating despite satisfying requirements
  7. Login problems preventing legitimate course access
  8. Incorrect course access permissions

Students should report the problem through the LMS support system or designated support channel.

MOCBT may provide:

  1. Technical assistance;
  2. Correction of the problem;
  3. Replacement access;
  4. Course-access extension;
  5. Restoration of learning progress;
  6. Alternative learning materials; or
  7. A refund where the service cannot reasonably be restored.

9. Internet and Student Device Problems

Refunds will generally not be issued solely because of problems originating from the student's own:

  1. Internet connection;
  2. Mobile network;
  3. Computer;
  4. Smartphone;
  5. Tablet;
  6. Browser;
  7. Operating system;
  8. Device storage;
  9. Unsupported software;
  10. Power supply; or
  11. Local network.

Students should first confirm that their device and internet connection meet the technical requirements published by MOCBT.

Where there is evidence that the problem originates from the MOCBT platform rather than the student's environment, the issue will be investigated under Section 8.

10. Change-of-Mind Refunds

A student may change their mind after purchasing a course.

However, because MOCBT courses provide digital learning access that may be used immediately after payment, change-of-mind requests after substantial course consumption may not qualify for a refund.

A request will be assessed based on:

  1. The date of purchase;
  2. The date of the refund request;
  3. Course usage;
  4. Content accessed;
  5. Materials downloaded;
  6. Assessments attempted;
  7. Certificate status;
  8. The reason provided.

MOCBT may, at its discretion, offer a course transfer or learning credit where a monetary refund is not appropriate.

11. Course Quality or Expectation Concerns

A student may request a refund if they believe that a course is materially different from the description presented at the time of purchase.

Examples may include:

  1. Course content materially differs from its advertised description;
  2. Important advertised components are missing;
  3. The promised course format is materially different;
  4. Major advertised learning resources are unavailable.

The student should clearly explain the issue and identify the relevant course information.

Minor differences in:

  1. Teaching style;
  2. Personal preference;
  3. Instructor presentation;
  4. Difficulty level;
  5. Learning pace;
  6. Personal expectations; or
  7. Individual opinions about the course

will not automatically qualify for a refund.

12. Course Completion Does Not Create Refund Eligibility

A student who has completed a course cannot ordinarily request a refund simply because they later decide that the course was not suitable for them.

Completion may involve:

  1. Completing required lessons;
  2. Completing required topics;
  3. Passing assessments;
  4. Reaching the required completion percentage;
  5. Meeting the configured course requirements.

Once a student has substantially consumed the educational service, refund eligibility will generally be limited to legitimate issues such as:

  1. Billing errors;
  2. Duplicate payments;
  3. Unauthorized transactions;
  4. Material misrepresentation;
  5. Failure to deliver the promised service; or
  6. Other circumstances requiring a remedy under applicable law.

13. Certificate and Refund Requests

Where a student has become eligible for or has already received a course certificate, this may be considered when evaluating a refund request.

A student who has completed all required course activities and received a certificate will generally not qualify for a refund based solely on a change of mind.

If a certificate was issued incorrectly because of a platform error, the student should contact support so that the certificate can be corrected or reissued.

14. Downloadable Materials

Where a course contains downloadable:

  1. PDFs;
  2. DOCX documents;
  3. Workbooks;
  4. Templates;
  5. Course resources; or
  6. Other digital materials,

accessing or downloading those materials may be considered when determining refund eligibility.

Students should therefore review the course description, requirements, learning outcomes, and available information before purchasing.

15. Payment Processor and Failed Transactions

Sometimes a bank or payment provider may temporarily show a debit even though MOCBT has not received a successful payment confirmation.

In such circumstances:

  1. The transaction will be checked against the payment provider;
  2. The payment status will be reconciled;
  3. The course will only be treated as successfully purchased after payment confirmation;
  4. If the payment failed but the customer's account was nevertheless debited, the matter will be handled through the applicable payment provider's reversal/refund process.

Students should provide the transaction reference where available.

16. Manual Payment Refunds

Where a student pays through a manual payment method such as bank transfer, refund requests will be processed after the payment and enrollment have been verified.

MOCBT may request:

  1. Student name;
  2. Student ID;
  3. Payment reference;
  4. Amount paid;
  5. Date of payment;
  6. Bank/payment details necessary for the refund;
  7. Proof of payment where required.

Refunds will only be made to a verified account or payment destination reasonably connected to the original transaction unless an alternative arrangement is approved.

17. Cryptocurrency Payments

Where cryptocurrency payments are supported through NOWPayments or another authorised processor, the refund process may be affected by:

  1. Blockchain confirmation;
  2. Exchange-rate fluctuations;
  3. Network fees;
  4. Blockchain transaction fees;
  5. Payment processor limitations;
  6. Availability of the original cryptocurrency payment route.

Where a cryptocurrency refund is approved, MOCBT will determine the refund amount based on the verified value of the eligible transaction and the circumstances of the refund.

Because cryptocurrency values can fluctuate significantly, the amount received by the customer may differ from the original cryptocurrency quantity unless the applicable payment processor supports a mechanism that permits an equivalent return.

Where applicable, blockchain/network fees that are unavoidable may be treated separately from the underlying refund amount.

18. Foreign Currency Payments

MOCBT's base course prices are maintained in Nigerian Naira (NGN).

Where automatic currency conversion is available, visitors may see an estimated equivalent price in their local currency.

The applicable exchange rate may vary depending on:

  1. Currency;
  2. Exchange-rate provider;
  3. Time of conversion;
  4. Payment processor;
  5. Transaction date.

The exchange rate used for the actual transaction will be recorded with the payment transaction.

Where a refund is approved, the refund amount will be determined using the verified original transaction value and applicable payment records rather than using a later exchange rate to create an unintended gain or loss.

Any foreign-exchange difference imposed by a bank or payment processor outside MOCBT's control may be handled by that provider according to its applicable terms.

19. Payment Processing Fees

Where a refund is caused by:

  1. MOCBT's error;
  2. Duplicate billing;
  3. Failure to provide the purchased service;
  4. A material platform failure; or
  5. Another circumstance for which MOCBT is responsible,

MOCBT will not intentionally reduce the customer's legitimate refund merely to recover ordinary internal processing costs where applicable law or the circumstances require a full refund.

For voluntary cancellations or refunds not caused by MOCBT, any deduction must be clearly disclosed and must be permitted by applicable law and the transaction terms.

20. Promotional Courses and Discounted Purchases

Courses purchased using:

  1. Coupons;
  2. Promotional codes;
  3. Scholarships;
  4. Special discounts;
  5. Limited-time offers;
  6. Bundle pricing; or
  7. Promotional campaigns

remain subject to the applicable refund rules.

Where a refund is approved, the refund will normally be based on the actual amount paid, rather than the course's undiscounted price.

Where a promotional offer includes multiple products, the refund calculation may take into account the value and usage of each component of the promotion.

21. Course Bundles

Where several courses are purchased as a single bundle, refund eligibility may be assessed based on the bundle as a whole or on the individual components, depending on:

  1. The bundle terms;
  2. Whether individual courses have been accessed;
  3. Whether downloadable materials have been used;
  4. Whether certificates have been issued;
  5. The price allocation displayed at purchase.

Accessing or substantially consuming individual courses within a bundle may affect the amount refundable.

22. Multiple Refund Requests

MOCBT reserves the right to review repeated refund requests associated with the same account, payment method, device, transaction pattern, or other relevant circumstances.

This is intended to prevent abuse of the refund system.

Nothing in this section prevents a legitimate consumer from exercising an applicable legal right or requesting a legitimate remedy.

23. Refund Abuse and Fraud

Refund mechanisms must not be used to obtain unauthorized access to digital courses or materials.

Examples of suspected refund abuse may include:

  1. Purchasing a course;
  2. Downloading or copying substantial course materials;
  3. Completing substantial portions of the course;
  4. Obtaining a certificate;
  5. Requesting a refund without a legitimate basis;
  6. Repeatedly purchasing and refunding the same or similar courses;
  7. Sharing course materials before requesting a refund;
  8. Using fraudulent payment information.

Where fraudulent or abusive conduct is suspected, MOCBT may investigate the account and take appropriate action.

This may include restricting course access, cancelling fraudulent transactions, or referring suspected fraud to the appropriate payment provider or authority.

24. Chargebacks and Payment Disputes

Students are encouraged to contact MOCBT Support before initiating a payment dispute or chargeback where the issue concerns:

  1. Missing enrollment;
  2. Duplicate payment;
  3. Course access;
  4. Technical problems;
  5. Refund requests;
  6. Incorrect billing.

MOCBT will make reasonable efforts to resolve legitimate disputes directly.

However, nothing in this Policy prevents a customer from exercising rights available through their bank, payment provider, card issuer, or applicable law.

25. How to Request a Refund

Refund requests should be submitted through the MOCBT Support/Ticket System or the designated refund support channel.

The request should include:

Required information:

  1. Full Name
  2. Student ID, where applicable
  3. Registered Email Address
  4. Course Name
  5. Payment/Transaction Reference
  6. Date of Purchase
  7. Amount Paid
  8. Reason for Refund
  9. Supporting evidence, where applicable

For technical problems, students should provide screenshots, error messages, or other information that may assist the support team.

26. Refund Investigation Process

After receiving a refund request, MOCBT may verify:

  1. The customer's identity;
  2. The payment transaction;
  3. Course enrollment;
  4. Course access history;
  5. Learning progress;
  6. Download activity where technically available;
  7. Assessment activity;
  8. Certificate status;
  9. Technical support history;
  10. Payment-provider records;
  11. Any other information reasonably necessary to determine the request.

The purpose of this review is to ensure that refund decisions are fair, consistent, and based on verifiable information.

27. Refund Decision

After reviewing the request, MOCBT may:

A. Approve a Full Refund

The eligible amount will be refunded.

B. Approve a Partial Refund

A proportionate refund may be issued where appropriate based on the extent of service delivered or consumed.

C. Offer an Alternative Remedy

Instead of a monetary refund, MOCBT may offer:

  1. Course transfer;
  2. Course replacement;
  3. Course-access extension;
  4. Learning credit;
  5. Technical correction;
  6. Replacement learning materials.

D. Decline the Request

Where the request does not meet the applicable refund requirements, MOCBT may decline the refund and provide an explanation where appropriate.

28. Refund Processing Time

Once a refund has been approved, MOCBT will initiate the refund within a reasonable processing period.

The time it takes for the funds to appear in the customer's account may depend on:

  1. Payment method;
  2. Bank;
  3. Card issuer;
  4. Payment processor;
  5. Cryptocurrency network;
  6. International payment system.

MOCBT does not control the processing time of external financial institutions after the refund has been successfully initiated.

29. Refund Destination

Where technically and legally possible, refunds will normally be returned through the original payment method.

For example:

  1. Card payment → original card/payment channel
  2. Paystack payment → applicable Paystack refund route
  3. Flutterwave payment → applicable Flutterwave refund route
  4. Manual bank transfer → verified bank account
  5. Cryptocurrency → supported cryptocurrency refund route where available

MOCBT may request additional information to safely process a refund.

30. Account and Course Access After Refund

Once a full refund has been approved and processed, the corresponding course entitlement may be revoked.

This may result in:

  1. Course access being removed;
  2. Course progress being deactivated;
  3. Download access being removed;
  4. Certificate eligibility being withdrawn;
  5. Certificate verification status being affected where applicable.

Where a partial refund is issued while continued access is permitted, the specific arrangement will be communicated to the student.

31. Refunds and Learning Progress

A refund does not entitle a student to retain paid course materials or continued access to a course for which the purchase has been fully refunded.

Where access is revoked following a refund, the student must cease using or distributing protected course materials.

32. Exceptional Circumstances

MOCBT may consider exceptional circumstances on a case-by-case basis.

Examples may include:

  1. Serious and documented technical problems;
  2. Significant payment errors;
  3. Duplicate transactions;
  4. Administrative mistakes;
  5. Unusual circumstances preventing reasonable access;
  6. Other circumstances that warrant special consideration.

Exceptional consideration does not guarantee approval of a refund.

33. No Waiver of Legal Rights

This Refund Policy is intended to establish MOCBT's normal refund procedures.

It does not:

  1. Remove statutory consumer rights;
  2. Prevent a customer from exercising a lawful remedy;
  3. Exclude liability that cannot legally be excluded;
  4. Override applicable consumer-protection legislation;
  5. Prevent a competent regulatory authority or court from exercising its lawful powers.

MOCBT will comply with applicable laws and regulatory requirements.

This approach is particularly important because the FCCPC has stated that consumers have rights to remedies where services fail to meet applicable standards, and recent FCCPC reporting has highlighted judicial scrutiny of blanket “no refund” terms where a paid service was not delivered. (FCCPC)

34. Refund Policy Changes

MOCBT E-LEARNING CONCEPTS may update this Refund Policy when necessary to reflect:

  1. Changes to the LMS;
  2. Changes to payment methods;
  3. Changes to course delivery;
  4. Changes in business operations;
  5. Changes in applicable law or regulatory requirements.

The latest version will be published on the MOCBT website.

The version applicable to a transaction will generally be the version presented or referenced at the time of purchase, subject to applicable law.

37. Student Acknowledgement at Checkout

I strongly recommend adding this directly to your checkout page:

Refund Policy Acknowledgement
By completing this purchase, I confirm that I have reviewed the course information, pricing, course requirements, and applicable Refund Policy. I understand that digital course access may be provided immediately after successful payment and that refund eligibility may depend on course usage, access to learning materials, assessments, certificate status, and the reason for the refund request.
I understand that legitimate service-delivery, billing, technical, or consumer-rights issues will be reviewed in accordance with the MOCBT Refund Policy and applicable law.

☐ I have read and agree to the Refund Policy.

The checkbox should be unchecked by default.

🔐 Important Recommendation for Your LMS

I would implement this policy in the actual system rather than keeping it as a static webpage only.

Your Admin should have:

Admin → Settings → Policies → Refund Policy

with:

  1. Refund Policy editor
  2. Effective date
  3. Last updated date
  4. Version number
  5. Publish/unpublish
  6. Policy revision history
  7. Course-specific refund policy override
  8. Default refund window — 7 days
  9. Course access threshold
  10. Refund request status
  11. Refund reason
  12. Admin notes
  13. Payment transaction reference
  14. Approved amount
  15. Requested amount
  16. Refund method
  17. Refund processor reference
  18. Approval/rejection date
  19. Admin who approved it
  20. Student notification
  21. Audit log

Recommended refund statuses

Pending → Under Review → Approved → Processing → Completed

or

Pending → Under Review → Rejected

or

Pending → Under Review → Alternative Remedy Offered → Accepted

This fits particularly well with your existing student support-ticket architecture, because a refund request can automatically generate a ticket such as:

MOCBT-REF-XXXXXX

and connect it to the student's:

  1. Account
  2. Student ID
  3. Course
  4. Enrollment
  5. Payment
  6. Transaction reference
  7. Currency
  8. Exchange-rate snapshot
  9. Course progress
  10. Certificate status
  11. Support history

That would give MOCBT a much stronger audit trail than simply having students email you for refunds.
